We talked to one of the
Oncologists at Baptist Hospital yesterday afternoon. He had talked to a
physician who used to be at St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis, TN who is a liver
cancer specialist. She, as well as other physicians, recommended a
different drug combination that has shown some response in the type of tumors
that she has. As with the other chemo drugs that she has taken, this
combination also has a variable response to shrinking and killing
tumors. She will go into the hospital this coming Tuesday for at least 3
days. One of these drugs she has had before; cisplatin. The doctor
said that this drug combination probably won't make her quite as sick as the
previous chemo drugs. And, it should not affect her drug counts as much
as the previous chemo drugs did either. Therefore, she may not have to
have as many hospital admissions due to high fevers and low white blood cell
and low platelet (blood clotting) counts. That is good news.
Her spirits remain high
and she appears happy and well. She is looking forward to going to a
movie with some friends today.
Please continue to keep
her and the family in prayer. This is a very difficult time emotionally
for us. Once a cancer comes back, it is never a very promising
thing. Pray for her healing and strength, for our wisdom and strength,
and for the physician's wisdom. God is able to heal her and we want Him
to have all of the glory, honor and praise.
We will update you next
week to let you know how the chemo visit is going. God bless you and we
love you!
